MAGURA: At least 13 people, including seven police men, were injured in a clash between Jamaat activists and police at Chhandra village under Shalikha Upazila on Thursday night.
The injured policemen are Shalikha police station second officer Iqbal, SIs Salam, Ashraful and Idris, Constables Abdur Rob and Monir and driver Ataul.
Sources said police raided a Jamaat secret meeting in a mosque at around 11:00pm that triggered a clash. To bring the situation under control, police fired five rounds of blank fire, leaving 17 people injured.
Confirming the matter, Magura Police Super (SP) Zihadul Kabir told banglanews, “On a tip off that some Jamaat men are holding a clandestine meeting in the mosque to conduct subversive act, police cordoned it. Sensing the presence of police, Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked them and tried to snatch police firearms.”
Meanwhile, police seized a laptop and some books from the spot.
