DHAKA: The government Thursday decided on use of Bengali exclusively in all government and private organizations, including offices, courts and banks.
With this end in view, the cabinet rescinded the amendment to the ‘Bengali Language Usage Act 1987’ made by the last caretaker government.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the cabinet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presiding, Abul Kalam Azad, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, told journalists after the meeting.
“The cabinet also approved a proposal for making a new law making compulsory the use of jute for the packaging of all local products,” he said.
