DHAKA: A fire broke out at a garment factory and two electronics shops in city’s Tejgaon industrial area on Saturday midnight, burning off huge valuables and commodities.
Fire Brigade sources said the fire broke out at Hong Kong Fashion, housed on the 2nd floor of the three-storey building at 28 Tejgaon at about 11.30 pm and soon engulfed the nearby showroom of Butterfly company and an office of a bulb-manufacturing company.
“On information, five firefighting units rushed in and doused the fire at about 2 am,” said Abdur Rashid, Dhaka divisional deputy director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Authority.
He said the blaze might have originated from an electric short circuit.
Goods worth about Tk 1.5 crore were gutted in the fire, but the firefighters could save cloths and other valuables worth about Tk 7 crore, a Fire Brigade source said.
Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon thana, said, “Nobody but the night-guards does stay in the building at night. So there is little possibility of any casualty.”
