CHUADANGA: At least seven local leaders and activists of BNP were injured as police charged baton to break their scheduled demonstration in the district Sunday under the opposition party’s nationwide programme.
The BNP men brought out a protest procession from Mozzammal –Dudu group office in the town at about 11:00am. Witnesses said police intercepted the procession in front of Prince Plaza market.
The law enforcers chased and the activists responded several times. At one stage, police dispersed the agitators charging baton on them, they added.
Mozzammal Haque, president of a faction of the district BNP, told Bangalnews24.com.bd that the clash left at least seven activities and leaders wounded.
They were admitted into Chuadanga Shadar Hospital, he said.
“Another programme will be declared,” said general secretary of the same faction Shamsuzzaman Dudu.
The OC of Sadar Thana, Kamruzzan, said they had to charge baton as demonstrators ignored the police restrictions.
