DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Monday ordered gazette publication of the much-talked-about Detailed Area Plan (DAP) outlining the capital city with a new development paradigm.

“She also advised the authorities concerned to publish the activities under DAP in detail on website for eliciting the public opinion,” said Abul Kalam Azad, press secretary to the Prime Minister.

The decision came from a cabinet meeting held in the cabinet room with premier Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Azad also informed in a press briefing after the meeting that an inter-ministerial committee has been formed with seven ministries for implementing the DAP designs.

“The premier said about DAP that the former BNP-Jamaat alliance government did not take any initiative to implement DAP. It remains stalled instead of implementation for the alliance government,” he added.

Quoting the Prime Minister, the press secretary said, “DAP would be implemented after rigorous analysis. Everyone should be kept involved to save the wetlands and farmlands and reduce traffic jam.”

He said the inter-ministerial committee has been formed to implement the DAP with ministers and secretaries of the Housing and Public Works, Land, Shipping, Communications, Local Government, Water Resources, and Environment Ministries.

The press secretary also informed that the cabinet approved the draft ‘Bangladesh Rifles Ordinance 2010’ and ratification of the ‘International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)’.

Besides, the cabinet meeting cancelled the decision of April 4, 1994 that had fixed marriage-registration fee for the poor at minimum Tk 5.
