CHITTAGONG: A businessman was stabbed and robbed of Tk 5 lakh in a daring daylight attack by bandits just as he came out from a bank in the port city’s Pahartoli area Wednesday.
“Three to four snatchers stabbed and snatched the money from businessman Musa just after he came out of the local Janata Bank branch,” says a spot account of the mugging.
Enraged by the banditry, local people barricaded the busy Dhaka-Chittagong highway for one and a half hours in an instant protest. The roadblocks were removed following police assurance of reining in the miscreants.
Assistant police commissioner Tanvir Arafat told banglanews24.com.bd, “The CNG scooter carrying the muggers has been detected and police have already launched a drive to track down the criminals.”
This happens to be the first major criminal incident in the port city after the Chittagong City Corporation election passed off with a regime change an atmosphere of sombre peace.
