DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Thursday alleged that an ill effort is being carried out for misleading the nation by making the party scapegoat for the sensitive issue of 1971.
“All means are being tried to stop the Islamic movement in the country,” said the party Emir, Matiur Rahman Nizami, in the concluding session of a programme in the city.
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of the party, organised the three-day education-camp at Al Falah auditorium at Magbazar. Shibir chief Rezaul Karim presided.
In his speech as the chief guest, Matiur Rahman, however, said, ”Attacks on Islamic movement are nothing new.”
“We were not accused in 1970 before the liberation, but we were barred from holding any meeting or rally at Paltan Maidan at that time, too. Basically, our initiatives are being hindered for a lack of clear conception about Islam,” said Nizami, who is among all the top leaders of Jamaat now listed out for trial for ‘crime against humanity’ during the 1971 liberation war.
He urged the leaders and activists of the party to face the situation with patience.
The Jamaat chief also blamed other Islamic parties for not playing any role in Islamic movement. “But we must not give up party ethics and ideals,” he said.
Among others, Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat Moulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee and Dr. Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Masud spoke at the meet.
