Dhaka: A Dhaka court Tuesday fixed October 22 for hearing on the defamation suit filed by prime minister’s energy adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi against acting editor of Daily Amar Desh and former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman.

Judge Ali Hossain of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court set the date as more time was sought for charge hearing on behalf of Tawfiq-e-Elahi.

The plaintiff and the accused—the two incumbent and the former custodians of the vital energy sector—were both present at that time.

Another two accused of the case are the publisher of the Daily Amar Desh, Hasmot Ali, and reporter concerned N. Abdullah.

Tawfiq-e-Elahi filed the case with Dhaka CMM court on January 19, alleging that the newspaper published a report that was ‘fake, fictitious and defamatory’.

Amar Desh in its December 17 issue had reported that Sajib Wajed Joy and Tawfiq-e-Elahi allegedly took Tk 56 core in kickback in awarding US-based oil company Chevron a work order worth Tk 370 crore without floating tenders.
