DHAKA: The 84-hour non-stop hartal, called by main opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance, continued for second consecutive day on Monday amid stray incidents of violence.
The parties are observing the shutdown on demand of non-party caretaker government during the polls-time and as a protest for arresting central BNP leaders, entered into second day amid sabotage on Monday.
Hartal supporters blasted cocktails at Hatirjheel, Shahjadpur, Fakirapool, Mahakhali areas of the city.
A 10-15 member team of Rampura Chhatra Dal brought out a procession in support of hartal at around 6.30am. They blasted 3-4 cocktails and blazed the road with petrol to obstruct haulage.
They had fled the scene before the arrival of police.
Meanwhile, Shibir men brought out a sudden procession at city’s Mahakhali area in the morning. Police failed to arrest anyone in this connection.
On the other hand, police are going for stern actions from the second day of 84-hour hartal.
First day’s hartal violence
A man was killed and 40 others were injured in separate hartal violence in several districts of the country on Sunday.
Besides, law enforcers detained 28 people including office secretary of Narayanganj city BNP, general secretary of Munshiganj city Chhatra Dal and general secretary of Brahmanbaria district unit BNP from different parts of the country.
Police, however, seized 156 fresh hand grenades in Kanthalbagan area of the city on Sunday night.
At least 30 cocktails were hurled towards the police forces in Paltan, Karwan Bazar, Kalabagan and Nabisco Intersection of the city.
