SATKHIRA: Law enforcers arrested 17 people including Chhatra Shibir cadre Monirul Islam Moni from various areas of Debhata upazila of the district for their alleged involvement with the murder of organizing secretary of upazila Awami League.

Police conducted the drives between Thursday night and early hours of Friday.+

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Debhata Thana Keramat Ali said that the detainees are being quizzed in police custody.

Earlier on Thursday night, a group of miscreants with 20-25 people chopped Awami League leader Abu Raihan to death at Parulia Bazar area of the upazila.

No cases were filed so far, in this connection.
