Jamaat man killed in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a clash with police, Rapid Action Batalion and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel in Shialdanga area of the district town early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Shamsur Rahman, 35, son of Abdul Majed of Shialdanga area.

Satkhira sadar thana police inspector (Investigation) Nasir Uddin said hundreds of police, RAB and BGB men went to Agordari village to catch accused on Tuesday night.

On information, thousands of Jamaat men thronged there and hurled cocktails and brick-chips at law enforcers.  

They also tried to confine the men of joint forces putting tree logs on the road.

Law enforcers fired 150 rounds of bullets, tear shell, bullets from shotgun and Chinese rifle, leaving the Jamaat man dead on the spot.

Later, Jamaat-Shibir looted and torched shops of Awami League activists Sadhu, Amit Ghosal, Nur Islam and Shah Alam in Agordari bazaar.

Besides, the Jamaat men looted and vandalized houses of Awami League leaders Tapos Achariya and Gopal Ghosal.
