JP won’t join polls sans fair environment

DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Mohammad Ershad categorically said his party would not join the upcoming 10th general election if fair election environment was not created.

He came with the observation in a view-exchange meeting with party nomination seekers at Emanuels Convention Center in the city on Friday.

Ershad said, “I am doubt about whether candidates can go to vote centers, whether elections would be held in free and fair manner? So, I am not willing to take responsibility to push my party candidates to face bombings and arson.”

Indicating candidates, the Jatiya Party chief said, “You will submit nomination papers but will wait for my instruction. You will go to polling centers after directions received from me.”

Urging the government to create environment of fair polls, he said all parties would be joined in the polls.
