JHENIDAH: An activist of Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed in a clash between blockade supporters and police in Kotchandpur upazila of the district on Saturday, the first day of 72-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance.
The deceased was Israil Hossain, 20, son of Shahidul Islam of the upazila.
Witnesses said BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men tried to block roads by taking position in the area at around 10:30am. Being obstructed by law enforcers, blockaders attacked police that triggered a clash, leaving five, including Israil, bullet wound.
Later, Israil succumbed to his injuries at Kotchandpur upazila heath complex around 11:00am, confirmed Residential medical officer Dr Siddque Hossain of the hospital.
Upazila BNP president Sirajul Islam said that Israil was activist of Chhatra Shibir. Of the injured, two were sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
