DHAKA: The hartal, called by opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance, is underway in seven upazilas of Chittagong and Sirajganj, Chapainawabganj, Magura and Bhola districts on Wednesday.
The alliance is enforcing the shutdown in protest against government actions and killing of opposition men in different districts during nationwide blockade.
In Sirajganj, the daylong hartal, called by 18-party alliance, is underway and several incidents of cocktail blast, road blockade and sporadic clashes between law enforcers and picketers.
Shirajganj Additional Police Super Mokhter Hossain told banglanews that additional police was deployed in important areas to avert any untoward situation.
The dawn to dusk, called by hartal 18-party alliance, in progressing in the district protesting the BNP senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman’s exclusion of from voter list and arrests of central leaders.
In Chapainawabganj, The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by 18-party alliance protesting killing of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Rubel, is underway in the district with processions and tight security measures by law enforcers.
Besides, 18- Party alliance called dawn-to-dusk hartal in Chandpur is underway protesting the murder of two activists amid clash between police and blockaders.
In Magura, a half-day hartal called by district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), in the district is underway amid some incidents of arson and road blockades.
On the other hand, in Bhola, a half-day hartal, called by BNP, is also underway amid several incidents of picketing.
In Chittagong, the dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Chittagong (north) Swechchasebok Dal, is underway in seven upazilas of the district.
