DHAKA: Visiting foreign affairs secretary of India Sujatha Singh on Wednesday categorically said her country wants political stability and uninterrupted democracy in Bangladesh.
She came up with the assertion at a meeting with opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan residence in the evening.
Party’s vice chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury briefed the journalists after the meeting.
In response to a question of journalists what Sujatha Singh said about the next general election, Shamser Mobin Chowdhury told journalists: “She (Sujatha) said the people of Bangladesh will take the decision in this regard. India wants the democracy continues in Bangladesh.”
Earlier in the day, Sujatha Singh holds a meeting with Khaleda Zia. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran along with six other officials of Indian High Commission was also present in the meeting.
Vice chairman of BNP Shamser Mobin Chowdhury and Riaz Rahman, advisor to the Chairperson Khaleda Zia also were present in the meeting.
Sujatha Singh came to Bangladesh in the morning.
