Violence if no consensus

DHAKA: Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Barrister Abdur Razzak on Monday categorically said violence would increase if all the political parties do not join the parliamentary elections.

The Jamaat leader came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after a meeting with Oscar Fernandez Taranco, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of the United Nations (UN) at a city hotel in the morning.

Abdur Razzak told the journalists: “We informed the special envoy of UN that people of the country will not accept the elections without the participation of all the parties.”

He also said: “Taranco asked us how the enduring anarchy can be reduced and in reply we said him it can be achieved through participatory polls.”

Party’s working committee member Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarker were among others present in the meeting.
