DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday said that he would accept the polls under non-partisan caretaker government in spite of his predicament.

The Jatiya Party chief made the assertion at his Baridhara residence after his latest proposal to defer the polls January 5.

He said “I may participate in the elections even under a caretaker government system for the sake of a fair election, though I criticized the system before.”

The former president added: “Now we have to think seriously about ongoing troublesome politics and should find out a way for free and fair election.”

Ershad also termed the election without BNP is not acceptable to countrymen as the main opposition has been waging movement for holding elections under a caretaker government.

On December 3, HM Ershad declared to boycott the upcoming elections as most of the major political parties did not participate the polls.
