DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called again countywide dawn-to-dusk hartal (shutdown) in protest against issuing death warrant for its leader Quader Mollah.
Jamaat acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman made the announcement of the shutdown in a statement on the Monday evening.
In the statement, he alleged that the government plotted to kill Quader Mollah violating the constitution, rules of the Supreme Court as well as the jail code.
Shafiqur Rahman also said the people of the country would resist the government’s move at any cost if it does not refrain from its conspiracy to kill Quader Mollah.
On September 17, following the appeal of the government seeking death penalty for Mollah, the Appellate Division awarded death penalty for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
