Shibir-cop clash hurt 25 in 2 dists

DHAKA: At least 25 people, including police man, were injured in separate clashes between Shibir men and police in Dinajpur and Sylhet districts on Wednesday.

Our Dinajpur correspondent reports: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between Shibir, Chhatra League and police in Hazi Mohammad Denesh Science and Technology University of the district at around 10:00am.

Sources said that Shibir activists led by its leader Noor Hossain entered the varsity campus and set fire of four buses, canteen, dormitory, cut over hundreds trees of the campus.

Meanwhile, Chhatra League activists protested the Shibir men that triggered a clash.

On information, police rushed to the spot and fired 32 rounds shotgun and eight round tear shells to bring the situation under control, leaving 10 people injured.

Our staff correspondent of Sylhet reports: At least 15 people, including a police man, were injured in a clash between police and picketers in Temukhi point of Sadar Upazila of the district at around 11:00am.

Witnesses said that activists of 18-party brought out a stick procession and put blockade on roads and started throwing brick-chips aiming police.

Later, police fired tear shell and blank shot to disperse the procession, leaving 15 people injured.

Meanwhile, police held 10 activists of 18-party alliance from the spot.
