COMILLA: At least 20 people, including five police men, were injured in a clash between Jamaat-Shibir men and police in Syedpur under Burichang upazila of the district on the 5th day of blockade and 3rd day of hartal called by Jamaat (Wednesday) morning.
The injured police were identified as Burichang Thana Inspector (Investigation) Kamruzzaman Siddiqui, Sub-Inspector Rahat Siddiqui, Constable Debdas and Bahauddin, Ansar member Abdur Mazid.
The injured were admitted to various local clinics and hospitals.
Local sources said Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a procession protesting the death warrant of Jamaat leader Quader Mollah.
At one stage, Shibir men started throwing brick-chips aiming police.
Meanwhile, police opened fire 142 rounds of rubber bullets, seven rounds from shot guns and a round of teargas shells to bring the situation under control that left 20 people injured including five law enforcing agency personnel.
On the other hand, nine of the bullet-injured were Jamaat-Shibir activists, claimed the party.
