DHAKA: Demanding release of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government had detained him to hold planned election.
He came up with the observation through a statement Friday.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Ruling Awami League is detaining, killing and harassing opposition leaders and activists to implement their election drama. Moreover same things being done against the people deny assisting in the illegal work.”
Demanding release of HM Ershad immediately, he added: “We are concerned as law enforcers took him away at mid night from his residence.”
Fakhrul also said that democracy in the country was at stake due to autocratic attitude and behavior of ruling government.
