Tangail BNP leader shot dead, hartal Saturday

TANGAIL: A Union Parishad Chairman, also Sadar Upazila BNP vice-president was shot to death by miscreants in Battola area of the district town in Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam Faruk, 55, Chairman of Dainya Union under Sadar upazila.

Witnesses said some miscreants riding on motorcycle fired three rounds of bullets at head and chest of Faruk in Battola Bazar area at around 7:30am, leaving his injured critically.

He was rushed to Tangail Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

Tangail thana officer-in-charge Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

District BNP called half-day hartal in the district for Saturday protesting the death of BNP leader.

District unit BNP president Ahmed Azam Khan confirmed the matter.
