18-party’s 83-hr blockade ends

DHAKA: The 83-hour blockade called by opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance ended at 5:00pm on Tuesday amid stray incidents across the country.

The 18-party called the fifth phase of 83-hour blockade programme started from 6:00am Saturday protesting the one-party elections under partisan government.

BNP Standing Committee member made the announcement on Saturday at Party’s Gulshan office.  

However, rampage during the fifth spell of blockades was on minimum level than previous blockades.

Though, several cocktails, petrol bombs were exploded by 18-party activists and many vehicles were vandalized and torched during the strike.

Clashes between 18-party supporters and low enforcing agencies and several arrest incidents of opposition leaders and activists were marked during the blockade.
