DHAKA: The abolition of country’s elite law enforcer Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will not be a wise decision, commented National Parliament’s opposition leader Rowshan Ershad.

She also suggested to ensure punishment for the accused RAB officers as well as to re-structure the force rather than abolition.

The opposition leader, also a Jatiya Party leader, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Her statement came in a situation when Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has demanded the government to disband the force and also threatened movement if necessary.

In the statement, Rowshan said that for the crime of a small group of RAB members, the entire force should not be abolished.

She said, the law enforcers have many commendable activities in the past. Law and order situation has improved for their actions.

Mentioning the seven killing incident in Narayanganj a painful and heinous one, the opposition leader said, the culprits must be punished.

The criminal, whoever they are, must come under justice, she said.

In the statement, Rowshan also demanded the government that according to the High Court order, the government should take urgent steps to arrest the accused people.

She also welcomed Prime Minister’s initiatives in taking stern action against the people, who were involved in this kind of incident.
