Hearing on Khaleda’s pleas re-fixed

DHAKA: The Supreme Court on Sunday re-fixed July 21 and 24 for hearing of two appeals made by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the rejection order of two writ petitions by the High Court in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable graft cases.

A five-member SC full bench headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain re-fixed the new dates after receiving Khaleda Zia’s pleas.

Earlier on Tuesday, the SC had fixed July 13 as the hearing date of two different appeal pleas filed by the BNP Chairperson with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on last Monday.

On June 19, a single bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque of the High Court rejected the writ petition filed by Khaleda Zia on May 12 challenging legality of judge appointment of Zia Charitable Trust and Orphanage Trust graft cases.

On the other hand, on April 13, Khaleda Zia filed a review petition with the HC seeking cancellation of indictment order.

On April 23, an HC bench comprising Justice Borhanuddin and Justice AKM Quamrul Quader rejected the appeal.
