Jamaat’s trial shelved!

DHAKA: The possibility of framing formal charge against Jamaat-e-Islami as war criminal organization has hanged for an indefinite period.

The dubitation in this regard has become now a hot gossip to mass people of the country.

However, the experts also deem that an amendment of the International Crimes Tribunal Act is needed to ensure a proper punishment of Jamaat.

Aliquot part of prosecutors including Barrister Turin Afroz opined that the conventional criminal act of the country can handle the trial of Jamaat if any new act would be unavailable.

She also mentioned the banning Hizb-ut-Tahrir and Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh under the conventional law.

Other barristers of the prosecutors Zead Al Malum, Rana Das Gupta, Sultan Mahmud, Tapas Kanti Bal, Saiful Islam among others also chorused with Barrister Turin with the same opinion.

The experts also said that Bangladesh can be a role model by implementing the trial against the war criminals and alleged war crime committing organization Jamaat-e-Islam.

But the disagreements among the prosecution analysts is now hovering the trial against Jamaat, they added.

The organization was charged for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and so on.

The formal charge was scheduled to be formed under International Crimes Tribunal Act within this month but postponed for vague tenure.

Seven charges including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, Geneva Convention violation, violation of international law and others were investigated by tribunal investigation organization and reported to tribunal on March 27.

If the amendment is needed in constitution or law it can be done easily as the majority of the Members of Parliament are from the ruling party.

It has become just a matter of time and will of the authorities. But if the process gets lengthy then Jamaat-e-Islami and its associate organizations will be privileged.

At last but not at least considering the entire scenario a question peeped in everyone’s mind and that is---“Will Jamaat’s trial hang forever?”
