Remand plea for Hizb-ut Tahrir denied

CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong court on Saturday rejected remand plea of eight members of Hizb-ut Tahrir, a banned outfit, who were arrested during distributing anti-state leaflet and publication in Amderkilla area of the city.

The court also rejected the bail plea and sent them to jail.  

Metropolitan Magistrate Rahmat Ali passed the order when police produced them before the court and pleaded seven-day remand, said additional deputy-commissioner Mohammad Rezaul Masud. 

Earlier, police arrested seven activists, students of Chittagong University and some private universities, from Shahi Jame Masjid of Andarkilla area in the port city on Friday noon.

On information, police also arrest another activist Atiqur Rahman with Jihadi books at midnight.

Sub-inspector Utpal Barua of Kotwali Police Station said two cases were filed in this connection.
