NARAYANGANJ: Krishak Sramik Janata League President Kader Siddiqui is going to fight for the Narayanganj-5 (Shahor-Bandar) constituency by-election, slated for June 26.

District unit organizing Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique, on behalf of Kader, bought the nomination paper on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday night, Kader told at a rally of the party activists in the district that his party decided to contest the by-polls to remove ill-politics from Narayanganj and the candidate would be announced soon.

Earlier, Election Commission had cancelled Kader’s nomination for Tangail by-polls due to defaulted loan.

At Narayanganj-5 constituency, ruling Awami League decided to give no candidate. AL had no candidate there for the January 5 polls where Nasim Osman won the seat under JP ticket, which fell vacant after he died on April 29.

Sources said Nasim’s wife Parvin Osman is the possible runner under the JP banner for the by-polls.

Former lawmaker of the constituency, and also former district AL president, SM Akram also collected nomination on Sunday morning.

Earlier, Santrash Nirmul Mancha convener Rafiur Rabbi, also slain Tanvir Mohammad Towki’s father, collected nomination paper to contest in the by-polls.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on June 26 whereas the last date for nomination submission is May 29 and securitization of the nomination papers is June 1 while the last date for nomination withdrawal is June 9.
