Police withdrawn from Shafique Rehman house

DHAKA: The law enforcers were withdrawn from the residence of noted journalist Shafique Rehman on Saturday afternoon after a siege of his house for almost seven hours.

Earlier his house was cordoned by police from morning.

Around 30 police personnel cordoned his Eskatan residence in the city from 8:00am.

He said, he along with the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was scheduled to distribute saree and lungi to destitute at his house on the occasion of Ziaur Rahman’s death anniversary and where the BNP chief was likely to attend at the program as chief guest.

The senior journalist alleged that police obstructed their peaceful activities.

Shafique Rehman further claimed that the law enforcers did not pay any attention while his house was cordoned by miscreants earlier.

Denying the allegation, Ramna Thana officer-in-charge Mashiur Rahman said police surrounded the house as regular duty to maintain law-and-order.

Shafique Rehman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
