Khaleda meets Sushma

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had a meeting with visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday morning.

Sources said that their meeting started around 10:30am.

The BNP chief met the Indian Minister on her (Sushma's) invitation at Bengal suite of the Hotel Sonargaon (Room no 824), they added.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, BNP chief’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan told that Khaleda-led a BNP delegation, including its acting secretary general and some other senior leaders, to attend the meeting there.

According to the sources close to Khaleda, the BNP chief at the meeting discussed various bilateral issues and relations, January-5 election, country's latest political situation, and the necessity of an inclusive and early fresh election in Bangladesh.

However, today’s the last day here in Bangladesh for the Indian External Affairs Minister’s this time visit.

Earlier, a special flight carrying her landed at Shahjalal International Airport at 10:30pm Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali welcomed her while other officials from Foreign Ministry were present.

Sushma, just after landing, greeted the people of Bangladesh and expressed her hope about further strengthening of Indo-Bangla friendship.

This is the first visit by any top Indian leaders after Modi’s ascension to power.

She met with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina too.
