DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has been selected as a steering member of Commonwealth Electoral Network (CEN) from Asia region.

EC public relations director SM Asaduzzaman informed the matter on Monday.

He said chief election commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed attended the two-day third biannual conference held in Kenya capital Nairobi from 23.

A total of 48 members of Election Management Body from different Commonwealth countries also attended the meeting.

The CEN was established in 2010 aiming to share experience among the member countries, to give technical support and to provide mutual support in observing free and fair elections.

The network consists of eight steering members including the chairman.

Chief Election Commissioner of the hosting country has become chair of the organization for two years in the biannual conference.
