DHAKA: Jamaat-Shibir activists unleashed violence in some districts in the early hour of 48-hour hartal that began at 6:00am Wednesday.
In the capital, Chhatra Shibir activists brought out sudden procession in capital’s Mirpur and exploded four cocktails. Police arrested three Shibir activists from the spot.
In Satkhira, hundreds of Jamaat-Shibir activists vandalized over 10 vehicles and exploded some cocktails in Kodomtola area. Later they locked into a fierce clash with police and BGB personnel. Police opened 30 rounds of rubber bullets and tear shells to disperse them. Police arrested 12 Jamaat activists, seized four motorcycles and 24 bicycles from the spot.
In Jhenidah, Jamaat activists barricaded some roads and vandalized six vehicles in different spots of the district.
In Gazipur, picketers torched a bus in Chandra intersection.
In Rajshahi, Jamaat-Shibir activists locked into a clash with law enforcers in front of BGB-37 Headquarters. Police fired rubbers bullets and tear shells to take the situation under control.
Picketers also set fire on a truck in Kharkhari by-pass area.
In Khulna, Jamaat activists exploded four cocktails in the city and police arrested three of them from the spot.
In Noakhali, Chhatra Shibir activists exploded five cocktails in Dattapara area of the district town in the morning. Police detained a Shibir activists from spot.
In Comilla, hartal supporters hurled two cocktails at police car in the city, leaving two cops injured.
Picketers vandalized seven vehicles in Chauddagram and five vehicles in Sadar South Upazila during hartal hours.
In Brahmanbaria, Shibir activists set fire on Comilla-Sylhet highway pouring petrol on road and police arrested six picketers from different spots.
In Meherpur, Jammat-Shibir activists barricaded few roads in the district and tried to vandalize vehicles.
On Tuesday, Jamaat-e-Islami called a 48-hour hartal from Wednesday morning protesting the Supreme Court verdict that sentenced Qauder Mollah to death.
Earlier in the day, the Appellate division on Tuesday sentenced Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah to death for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
