CHITTAGONG: Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, observed an 8-hour hartal in port city on Thursday amid stray incidents of violence protesting the arrest of its 34 leaders and activists.
Shibir activists set fire on a CNG-run auto rickshaw in front of Sholshahar baby super market under Panchlaish thana at around 8:30am, a spot account said.
Meanwhile, picketers vandalized some vehicles and blasted couple of cocktails.
Earlier in the morning, Shibir activists from a brisk procession hurled couple of cocktails at Badurtola in the city.
Metropolitan police zone assistant commissioner Shah Abdur Rauf told banglanews, “On information, a team of police rushed to the spot.”
Around two thousands additional police forces were deployed in the area to avoid untoward situation, he added.
On Wednesday, the organization called half-day hartal for Thursday in five districts of the division protesting arrest of 34 leaders and activists.
