DHAKA: Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islam, has threatened to enforce daylong hartal for Sunday in Rajshahi, Natore, Pabna and Chapainawabganj if their Rajshahi University Secretary Saifuddin and seven other activists are not released by Saturday.
A press release signed by Chhatra Shibir publicity secretary of RU unit Mohsin Alam made the disclosure on Thursday evening.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5, in a drive, held eight leaders and activists of Rajshahi University unit of Chhatra Shibir, including its secretary, on Wednesday midnight.
Sources said a team of RAB-5 held them from Shibir-controlled Contest Coaching Center, from city’s Malopara area.
The law enforcers, however, recovered around 13 cocktails and a pistol with eight rounds of bullets from the scene.
Moreover, they were allegedly involved in violence and anarchy during hartal.
