Shakib keeps Zimbabwe to 240

DHAKA: Scoreboard after Bangladesh finished at 27/1 in the first innings, trailing Zimbabwe by 213 runs at stumps on Day 1 in the first test at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.

Shakib Al Hasan exploited the significant bounce and turn on offer to take six wickets on his comeback from a two-and-a-half month disciplinary suspension imposed by the BCB.

His performance - the highlight of which was a relentless accuracy - helped Bangladesh dismiss Zimbabwe for a below-par total, and underlined his value to a team that has not won a Test or one-day international in 2014.

The 5-day match of the three-match Bashundhara Cement Test Series began at 9:30 am local time.

Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor won the toss and decided to bat first. They, however, lost all wickets to score 240.  Sikandar Raza is the only Zimbabwean batsman who scored a half century in the innings.

Shakib Al Hasan bagged six wickets for 59-run. Besides, debutant Jubair Hossain bagged two wickets while Shahadat Hossain and Taijul Islam picked up one wicket each.

Bangladesh though lost Tamim Iqbal’s wicket in the beginning. The second day of the test will resume on Sunday with Shamsur Rahman’s 8 and Mominul Haque’s 14 runs.

Zimbabwe pacer T Panyangara took the wicket of Tamim who scored 5-run before returning to the pavilion.
