Bangladesh take narrow lead

DHAKA: Bangladesh only managed a 14-run lead after chasing Zimbabwe’s 240 runs in their first innings of the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.

Zimbabwe, however, trailed the host by nine runs with all wickets remaining as they scored 5 in their second innings at stumps on the second day of the first Test.

Earlier Bangladesh lost all wickets to score 254 runs in their first innings on the second day. The first test of the three-match Bashundhara Cement Test Series began Saturday.

Bangladesh lost six top order batsmen before tea break of the second day. Before going back to the pavilion, Mahmudullah and Mominul Haque scored 63 and 53 runs respectively.

Later captain Mushfiqur Rahim scored a responsible 64 off 126 balls.    

Zimbabwe pacer T Panyangara took five wickets while Sikandar Raza and T Kamungozi bagged one wicket each. Besides,  Mominul Haque, Shakib al Hasan (5) and Shahadat Hossain (0) were run out.

Earlier on Saturday, in the first day, Shakib Al Hasan exploited the significant bounce and turn on offer to take six wickets on his comeback from a two-and-a-half month disciplinary suspension imposed by the BCB.

In their first innings, Zimbabwe lost all wickets to score 240. 

Shakib Al Hasan bagged six wickets for 59-run. Besides, debutant Jubair Hossain bagged two wickets while Shahadat Hossain and Taijul Islam picked up one wicket each.
