DHAKA: Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe in the first Test by three wickets in the three match Bashundhara Cement Test Series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Bangladesh reached 101-run, the winning target despite the horrific show in the top order.
Tigers lost seven wickets in the chase where the third innings bowling hero Taijul Islam scored valuable 15-run while skipper Mushfiqur Rahim played a patient knock of 23-run holding the helm in the fourth innings.
Furthermore, Taijul Islam's strategy was simple and his execution was ruthless enough to give him the best bowling figures in Bangladesh history.
His 8 for 39 - the third-best haul by a left-arm spinner - set up a tame target of 101, but Zimbabwe’s seamers rallied to keep the Mirpur Test in the balance.
The hosts had lost three wickets without any run on the scoreboard while chasing the 101-run target set by Zimbabwe.
Chigumbura bagged four wickets while T Panyangara took two and TL Chatara took one wicket.
However, Taijul Islam becomes the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 8 wickets in an innings while Shahadat Hossain and Shakib-al-Hasan bagged one wicket each.
The first test of the three-match Bashundhara Cement Test Series began Saturday.
In their first innings, Bangladesh scored 254-run in response to Zimbabwe’s 240-run losing all wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan took six wickets in the first innings.
