DHAKA: Sourav Ganguly, the former India skipper and current joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), is in the frame of schemes of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the position of batting consultant of their national side. 

Earlier in 2014, during the ICC T20 World Cup, Ganguly went to Bangladesh as a commentator, where he was asked by the local journalists about his willingness towards coaching Bangladesh. In replay Ganguly said that he was open to the idea.

According to the latest developments, BCB approached Ganguly for taking up the post of batting consultant before next year’s World Cup. But due to the commentary commitments he will not be available for the job during World Cup. So, BCB is now trying to convince Ganguly to take him on board after next years’ mega cricketing event gets over. According to BCB, they are ‘confident’ of securing his service in near future, reports cricketcountry.com.

Kolkata based Ganguly is hugely admired and followed by cricket fans in Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s One-day International (ODI) captain Mushrafe Murtaza played alongside him for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Indian Premier League (IPL). Even the BCB has a very good relation with him. In response to Ganguly’s invitation, the BCB XI came to Kolkata to play this year’s Acharya Memorial Trophy, organised by CAB for Eden Gardens’ 150-year anniversary.

Current Bangladesh team have some young and talented batsmen like Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, who will be immensely benefited if Ganguly finally becomes the batting consultant. His experience and attitude towards the game will certainly help these young players to become a better cricketer.
