DHAKA: New Zealand’s Tim Southee took seven wickets, destroying England batting lineup in the teams’ ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Pool A match at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Friday morning.
The hosts are chasing English-set 124-run target, scoring 47 runs for none in 3.2 overs. MJ Guptill and BB McCullum are batting now.
Earlier, England have lost all wickets to score 123-run in 33.2 overs. Only JE Root, who scored 46 runs off 70 balls, was successful before AF Milne sent him back to the pavilion. MM Ali and EJG Morgan added 20 and 17 runs respectively.
Tim Southee was the man to destroy the England batting. He hit first, sending both English openers - IR Bell and MM Ali – back to the pavilion. TA Boult and DL Vettori also bagged the wickets of GS Balance and EJG Morgan respectively.
Tim Southee stroke again, bagging JWA Taylor, JC Buttler, JCR Woakes SCJ Broad and ST Finn one by one.
Tim Southee, on his bowling spell, said: "It's a bit of a blur at the moment. We're good swing bowlers and even losing the toss, the ball swung around all innings.”
“The ball stayed in reasonable shape all the way through so that's all I can put it down to. We've done half the job, so hopefully we can do the other half," he added.
England won the toss and decided to bat. The match kicked off at 7:00am Bangladesh time. Both sides, however, made no change to their teams.
England began their WC mission by loosing to the tournament co-host Australia.
Co-host New Zealand, in their first match, defeated Sri Lanka. Kiwis, in their second match, also won over the Scotland and topped the Pool A point list.
