DHAKA: The 29th Bashundhara National Age-Group Swimming Competition ended on Sunday through prize giving ceremony at Syed Nazrul Islam Swimming complex in Mirpur in the city.
The 3-day-long competition was organized by Bangladesh Swimming Federation and patronized by country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara group.
Bangladesh Swimming Federation president, also Naval Chief Admiral M Farid as a chief guest distributed prize money to the swimmers of 8th Bangladesh games national record holders.
They were – Bangladesh Navy’s Mahfuzur Rahman and Sonia Akhtar Tumpa, BKSP’s Papia Akhtar and Romana Akhtar Army’s Jewel Ahamed.
This year BKSP achieved champion’s trophy and Bangladesh Ansar became runner-up. By winning seven gold medals, three silvers and a bronze Marium Khatun of Sagorkhali Swimming Club became champion in female singles event. Whereas winning 12 golds Ariful Islam of BKSP became champion in the male singles event.
Meanwhile, a special award was given to physically challenged Khushi Khatun of Pabna district sports organization who will join in the upcoming Special Olympics in Sydney of Australia.
After completing prize giving ceremony chief guest and special guest were handed over a crest.
Bashundhara Group Advisor (PR and Head of AHR) Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Khandakar Abdul Wahid, General Secretary of Swimming Federation Rafique Uddin Rafiz, Joint secretary and tournament committee convener MB Saif, Bashundhara Group Press and Media Advisor Abu Tayab, Chief Marketing Promotional Officer Saiful Islam Helali and Jasim Uddin (Head of the Department Brand and Marketing) were, among others, present in the programme.
