Bangladesh 229/5 in 44-ov

DHAKA: Bangladesh scored 229 runs in 44 over losing five top order batsmen in first OID match against in Mirpur of the capital Tuesday.

Naeem Islam and Mahmudullah were on the crease with 83 and 23 run respectively.

TG Southee and JDS Neesham bagged two wickets each.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Anamul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Nasir Hossain and Mominul Haque went back to pavilion scoring 90, 13, 5, 1 and 0 run respectively.

Earlier, New Zealand decided to bowl first after winning the toss and the match started at 1:30pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

New Zealand will be out to take revenge for their 0-4 embarrassment in 2010.

Bangladesh, like they have been since the 4-0 win, will once again be out to prove that they are indeed making steady progress.

Their improvement is marked in the ODI format, more than in Tests or Twenty20s, but the visitors too have been in good form over the last 12 months.

New Zealand have won two of their last four bilateral series, against South Africa and England.

Bangladesh will play its second ODI at the same venue on October 31 while third ODI to be held at Fatullah Stadium on November 3.
