Death threat to SC lawyer for toll

DHAKA: Supreme Court lawyer Manzil Morshed, also a human rights activist, received death threat for a fat ransom of Tk 1 crore claimed by the extortionists.

After receiving the threat on Saturday night, he filed a general diary with New Market Thana and sought police protection.

Earlier on June 22, the extortionists sent a letter with a shroud to his house asking to pay the money otherwise members of the family would be killed.

Morshed, chief of an HR NGO called Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, told banglanews24.com that the musclemen also issued death threat to his wife over phone several times on the same plea.

Sub-inspector Hadeyath Hossain of New Market thana said, “Necessary measures are being taken to trace the extortionists tapping phone numbers.”
