DHAKA: Trading on Dhaka Stock Exchange got delayed Monday as a fire burnt part of the Internet connection to the country’s premier bourse.
Trading in stocks on the stock market got going at 12noon, an hour behind the schedule, through alternative dialup system.
DSE sources said a transformer blasted near Ispahani Bhaban, opposite the DSE, at about 6:50am and the Internet line of the DSE caught fire from the explosion.
Ataur Rahman, demonstrator of the fire brigade control unit, said two fire-fighting units of Ramna Zone rushed to the scene, but the fire had been doused in the meantime.
“A number of cables were brunt in the fire incident,” he said.
The DSE authorities decided to continue Monday’s trading till 3:30pm due to the delayed start.
Earlier in the morning, the DSE management informed the member brokerage houses about the transaction uncertainty in view of the exigencies.
