DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion crime-busters arrested Shamsuzzaman Arif, the prime suspect for the killing of schoolboy Samiul, and his younger brother Nuruzzaman in separate raids in the city and Tongi area early Monday.
Legal and Media Wing Director of RAB Mohammad Sohail told banglanews24.com.bd that acting on a tip-off, a Rab intelligence team found out the hideout of Arif in city’s East Rajabazar area and held him about 1:30am.
On the information of Arif, the elite force ran in Nuruzzaman from Pubail area of Tongi at around 5:00am.
“On preliminary interrogation, Arif admitted that although he was the mastermind, Nuruzzaman killed Samiul,” Sohail said.
The Rab official said Nuruzzaman also confessed to having committed the crime.
Meanwhile, Adabor Police arrested Sathi, wife of Arif, from the city on Sunday night.
Earlier, Ayesha, mother of Samiul, was arrested and taken on four-day remand Friday in connection with the murder of her own child, and only child.
After strangulating the six-year-old Samiul to death, the body was stuffed in a sack and dropped off the city’s Nabadoy Housing area.
On June 24, police recovered the body of Samiul Azim, the only child of his parents, two days after he had gone missing.
Later in the day, the victim’s father, Azim, filed a murder case with Adabor thana.
