NARSINGDI: Two units of Ghorashal Thermal Power Plant tripped Sunday for a sudden fire in their transmission lines and technical glitch, halting generation of 210-megawatt electricity.
Official sources said number-5 and-6 transmission lines went afire at about 12:45pm.
On information, firefighters rushed in and doused the flames at about 1:45pm.
Number-4 unit of the power station, which also generates 210-megawatt electricity, was earlier closed at about 2:30am for three days "due to technical fault", said Chief Engineer of the power station Tomal Chakrabarty.
Meanwhile, production in No-2 unit, which has the capability to produce 55mw electricity, remained suspended for last five months due to overhauling works while No-6 unit was shut down due to fire in its turbine generator on July 18.
The disruption in power generation in the major power hub occurred at a time when electricity shortages created a crisis in the country.
