DHAKA: The Ministry of Communications sought cabinet approval for the repair of 451 kilometres of road in different areas of the country at a cost of around Tk 141 crore.
Roads and Railways division of the ministry has sent a letter to the Cabinet Division seeking its approval, Communications Secretary M Mozammel Haque Khan told banglanews24.com.bd.
Signed by Khan, the latter says maintenance works take place on regular basis in order to keep communications system fit under periodic maintenance.
The decision for repair works as part of periodic maintenance was taken during the just-ended 2009-10 fiscal year that would be implemented in 10 packages.
Bangladesh government and the Japan Debt Cancellation Fund (JDCF) of the Japanese government will bear the cost.
A total of Tk 100 crore has been allocated in the budget for such upkeep work.
The JDCF provided Tk 150 for the works.
