Nahid Islam, one of the key organisers of the students' ongoing anti-quota movement, has announced countrywide blockades on Wednesday following a day’s pause in the continuous street demonstrations.
On Tuesday, there would be no mass demonstration but the protesting university students would hold online and offline campaigns seeking public support for their cause, Nahid said before ending Monday’s movement at 8.30pm. At the time, he was outlining the plans for the next few days to his fellow protesters at Shahbagh intersection in the captial.
The university students have given the government three days to fulfill their single demand: abolishing quota system in all government job circulars with the minimum number of posts, potentially 10% of the total vacancy, reserved only for disadvantaged groups, as is required under the constitution.
