Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, today (July 14) said a large proportion of incarcerated convicts are drug addicts.
He said, “We all need to be aware of drugs and take stand against the dealers.”
The minister made the remark at a discussion organized by the Narcotics Control Directorate on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Shilpakala Academy on Sunday (July 14).
“Drug addiction is a menace around the world. Public awareness is being increased by conducting various programs in our country. We do not manufacture drugs. But due to geographical reasons we have been facing its impact,” said Khan.
He further said as the Prime Minister is working against terrorism, she also declared zero tolerance against drugs.
A number of treatment centers are offering free treatment to bring addicts back from the clutches of drugs to the mainstream, he added.
