Two people were killed and six others injured as a jeep plunged into a ditch on the Bilaichari-Rajasthali border road in Pankata Chara area under Rajasthali upazila of the district last night.
The deceased were identified as Chinimong Marma, 20, son of Puchingmong Marma, and Manu Chakma. Both of them were the residents of Balumura village under the upazila.
Police said, the accident occurred in the area when a jeep car which is known as 'Chander Gari' was returning from Rajasthanli upazila. On the way, its driver lost control over the steering and fell into a ditch at around 8pm, leaving one dead on the spot and seven others critically injured.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jurachhari Upazila Police Station Md. Abdus Salam confirmed the matter.
The injured were taken to Rajasthani Upazila Health Complex, where one of them died on the way to the hospital, OC said.
Later, four of the critically injured were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the OC added.
