Smuggled gold found at Sylhet airport

Customs officials at Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport have recovered another abandoned consignment of smuggled gold, weighing 1,166 grams, from a Dubai-Sylhet flight.

The market value of the recovered gold is over Tk 1.3 crore.

The gold was found under a seat on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-248) that landed at 9:25 am on Friday. 

Assistant Commissioner of Customs Bikash Chandra Debnath confirmed the matter to Banglanews24.

He said 18 gold bangles and three gold chains, wrapped in polythene were recovered. 

No arrests have been made so far in connection with this incident, he said.

Investigations are underway to identify those involved in both smuggling attempts, the official added.
